An umbrella event of the Asia Fashion Exchange, Star Creation aims to uncover gifted Thai fashion designers and present them with the opportunity to launch their fashion careers, grooming them into becoming tomorrow’s top fashion design leaders. Star Creation is the ultimate invitation to join an international fashion event, giving young designers in Thailand the chance to show the world what they are capable of. The reward is a large cash prize and the launch of the designer’s own fashion collection!
After its successful launch in 2010 when it received a warm welcome from the public and fashion industry alike, Star Creation’s third competition year is ready to set the world of inspired haute fashion alight with its dramatic display of emerging talent and their incredible, and hitherto unknown, designer collections. This year’s competition is now open for entries.
Star Creation enjoys a strong Thai involvement. Last year, two Thai nationals progressed all the way to the ultimate show-down; Maythar Thadavi (34), a final year student of Chanapatana International Design Institute, took his Vietnam-inspired “The Field of Love” collection all the way to the last 12, where he demonstrated the soft lines of his environmentally-friendly fabrics. Another Thai student, Karn Karnjanamai (25), delivered an inspirational concept of spotlighting construction workers who bring buildings to life across Asia. This perceptual focus on the oft-invisible things in everyday life served as a perfect example of what Star Creation was set up to achieve; extending an offer to a new generation of design talent for the chance to present their extraordinary themes, passion and future design direction.
The competition features three categories of entrant; 16-19 year old fashion students, 20-35 year old fashion graduates, and 20-35 year old working adults from a relevant fashion design industry and who are earning in excess of 40,000 SGD as a result of their degree. There are three rounds of judging by industry practitioners and experts, after which the top 12 will be allowed to present their collections based on the “Fashion Without Frontiers” theme of final judging. Three top winners will emerge to claim a prize of 10,000 SGD each, plus a 12-month internship with leading fashion retailer FJ Benjamin (Singapore), and perhaps most importantly, the chance to launch their own collections.

This extraordinarily accessible event already has a reputation for functioning as a “star generator” for tomorrow’s cutting edge fashion pioneers, and 2012’s competition is set to be the most daring, original and innovative yet!
